Feather River College Athletics reports that the men’s soccer team has begun its season with a 3-1 overall record after defeating Merced College 2-0 on the road Sept. 5.
Golden Eagles sophomore goalkeeper Winston Jory, of Brisbane, Australia, allowed zero goals in 90 minutes of action. Head coach Conrad Gooley named Jory player of the match, stating that he earned it for “his big-time saves early in the game and dominance in the air.”
“It was a great game to be a part of; we really bounced back in the second half and showed more discipline,” said Jory. “We have a lot to build on and grow — we have high expectations, championship expectations.”
Sophomore Diego Martin, of Valladolid, Spain, came up big in the highly contested match with a goal on a free kick and an assist.
The Golden Eagles men’s soccer team will play at home for the first time Saturday, Sept. 13, at 1 p.m. versus De Anza College.
