Feather River College Athletics reports that the visiting FRC baseball team scored a season-high 20 runs in the first game and tallied double digits again in the nightcap for a doubleheader sweep over host Lassen Community College March 13 and 14.
The Golden Eagles rang up 20-8 and 11-4 victories to sweep the series over the Cougars. It was the 14th and 15th straight wins for the Dirty Birds, who are now 19-6 on the season and 11-0 in Golden Valley Conference play.
FRC has now scored at least 10 runs or better in seven straight games.
In the first game, the Golden Eagles put up crooked numbers in five of the nine innings, including six in the second. They continued the onslaught with three runs in the fourth, seventh and ninth, and four plate crossings in the fifth.
FRC bashed out 16 hits, with five players having multiple base knock games: Walker DesRosier (4-4), Jackson Phillips (2-4), Jake Dahl (2-4), Josh Davies (2-4) and Jackson Hertel (2-4). DesRosier drove in three, and Dahl had four RBIs.
The second game had a different beginning but the same ultimate outcome. Feather River trailed 4-0 through five innings and didn’t get on the scoreboard until the Golden Eagles scored one run in the sixth.
But they busted out with six runs in the seventh and added three more in the ninth to pull away. They would lash 15 hits: three each by Kory Chu and Luke Henderson, while DesRosier and Nick Anderson had two each. Henderson had four RBIs with a pair of doubles and Anderson had three RBIs.
Carl Colavecchio pitched the final 3.1 scoreless innings to earn the win. He allowed just one hit, walked one and struck out three.
The Golden Eagles plan to keep it going at home March 20 and 21, hosting Shasta College on Friday in a 2 p.m. single game and on Saturday in a doubleheader that starts at noon.
