Chester Junior-Senior High School announces it is seeking volunteers to help with the school’s athletic programs for the upcoming school year. “Without volunteers we simply cannot sustain these programs and your help is greatly appreciated by our student-athletes,” say organizers.

As its highest priority, the school is seeking local officials, referees and umpires. Because there is no longer a football officials association for the area, the school has to bring officials in from other areas at a much greater expense. Anyone interested in becoming an official or umpire in any sport is encouraged to contact athletic director Terry Hernandez at [email protected] or 530-258-2126, ext. 1419. Hernandez will then connect volunteers with local assignors and the section office.

Volunteers are needed to fill the following positions throughout the school year:

  • Volleyball: scorebook keeper, two line judges per match
  • Junior high volleyball: referee, line judges, scoreboard
  • Football: chain gang (four per game), scoreboard
  • Boys’ and girls’ varsity basketball: scorebook keeper
  • Junior high basketball: referees, scoreboard
  • Baseball: scorebook keeper, scoreboard
  • Softball: scoreboard
  • All sports: concessions

The Mountain Pride basketball tournament is scheduled for Dec. 11 through 13. Help is sought for housing players, selling concessions, staffing the gate, keeping the scorebook, monitoring the scoreboard and more.
