Almanor Fishing Report
8/7/22
Lake level continues to drop, Dakasu Island is out of the water for the first time in months. Dakasu is North/East of Rocky Point, in the middle of the lake and can be difficult to see under windy or poor light conditions. The dog days of summer are upon us, and fishing has been difficult. Water temperatures are in the mid-seventies and holding.
Fishing has been tough as fish are seeking cooler oxygenated water over springs and in deep water. The bite has been early in the morning and late in the evening. Slow remains the preferred method with plastics and crawlers the top two baits. There are lots of bank fishermen targeting fish at Hamilton Branch with the parking lot full on weekends. Fly fishermen are having the best success.
The Canyon Dam boat ramp will be closed 8-8 & 9 for repairs, the USFS ramp in Prattville will remain open. We will see a significant drop in temperatures this week with highs in the low 80’s and there is a chance of thunderstorms with winds Monday through Wednesday.
