1944-2025
Bill passed unexpectedly at his home in Reno, Nevada at the age of 81 on October 15, 2025. He was born in Alturas, California on August 15, 1944, and raised in the family Swiss dairy in Lake City, California. He attended local schools, participated in school sports, played baseball, and enjoyed hunting and fishing with family and friends. Bill always had a smile on his face, a joke to tell and was a happy-go-lucky guy, always seeing the bright side of life. The family moved to the Bay Area in the late 1950s. After high school, Bill joined the Army National Guard and later was employed in the dairy business. In 1970, he met the love of his life, Judy. In 1972 they married and shortly thereafter moved to Reno, Nevada. Until his retirement in 2007, Bill was employed with Model Dairy, becoming an independent distributor for most of this 30-year career. Bill belonged to Lakeridge golf club and was an avid golfer for many years. He continued to enjoy fishing, hunting, and gardening in his retirement. He enjoyed staying home and watching the Giants and 49ers with Judy and their dog. Bill was pre-deceased by his parents and brother-in-law. He is survived by Judy, her daughter June Mathews and family; sister Gussie Burgoyne; nephew Dan Burgoyne and family; niece Susan Holly (Dan) and son; and many cousins. A Celebration of Life for family and friends will be held at the VFW Hall in Verdi, Nevada (801 US Hwy 40) on November 22, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. with lunch provided. Please come and share your favorite memories of Bill. We encourage you to wear your SF Giant or 49ers gear to honor Bill. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your favorite charity in Bill’s honor.
