1947-2026
Kathy Scully, a woman defined by her unwavering faith, her industrious spirit and her deep roots in the Quincy community, passed away Jan. 15, 2026. Known affectionately by many as “Mick,” she leaves behind a legacy of sincerity, hard work and a heart dedicated to serving others — a life of journey and purpose.
Born Aug. 11, 1947, in Phoenix, Arizona, Kathy moved to Santa Cruz, California, at the age of 10. A proud 1965 graduate of Soquel High School, her early years were marked by a spirit of service, evidenced by her time as a dedicated “candy striper” volunteer.
Throughout her life, Kathy lived in Madera, Santa Cruz and Corralitos before finding her true home in Quincy in 1978. Over her 45 years in the area, she became a fixture of the community, known for her diverse professional life as a waitress, a business owner and a rental property manager.
It was a life of faith and community. Kathy was a devout Christian and a steadfast follower of God. Her faith was the compass of her life, and she was proud of both her American heritage and her Swedish ancestry. She lived with the joyful assurance that she was on her way to Heaven to be reunited with her beloved husband, Gary Scully, who preceded her in death in 2003.
Her commitment to outreach was legendary. Kathy was deeply devoted to her church family and spearheaded annual holiday efforts to provide toys for children and food baskets for families in need. She found immense joy in collaborating with volunteers to ensure that no one in her community was forgotten during the holidays.
Kathy was the cornerstone of a large and loving family. She is survived by her son, Richard Scully, and was preceded in death by Lynn Scully; grandchildren, Brandon, Cameron, and Landon Scully; siblings, Mary Schager, Bob Smith, Dorothy Allen, Carl Smith and Tom Smith.
Mick was loved by many because she was honest to a fault and possessed a sincere desire to help anyone in need. Her presence will be deeply missed in the many lives she touched.
She expressed her desire for a grave-side service, which the family is planning for the spring. Information about the service will be available at that time through the Quincy Community Church
