A woman was killed and two juveniles were injured Saturday morning in a head-on collision on State Route 299 just west of Alturas.
According to a Alturas CHP, an SUV traveling eastbound attempted to make a left turn into the auction yard when it collided head-on with a westbound cattle truck. The adult female driver of the SUV died at the scene. Two juveniles inside the vehicle were transported with injuries. Their conditions were not immediately available.
The CHP stated the investigation is still in its early stages, but drugs and alcohol do not appear to be factors. Authorities have not released the names of those involved pending notification of family.
The crash initially shut down both directions of State Route 299 as emergency crews responded. The highway later reopened to one-way traffic control, with officials advising drivers to expect short delays and to proceed slowly due to emergency personnel and pedestrians in the area.
