The annual Winterfest Parade will take place this Saturday evening, bringing holiday cheer — and a temporary road closure — to downtown Alturas.

City officials announced that Main Street will be closed from Carlos Street to 12th Street between approximately 5:15 and 6:30 p.m. to accommodate the parade and ensure a safe environment for spectators and participants.

The closure is part of a coordinated safety plan involving law enforcement officers and local volunteers who will assist with traffic control throughout the event.

During the closure, northbound traffic will be detoured from Carlos Street to Warner Street before reconnecting with Highway 299, while southbound drivers will follow the same route in reverse. Motorists are encouraged to plan accordingly and allow extra travel time.

The Winterfest Parade is a long-standing community tradition, drawing families, local businesses, and organizations together to celebrate the season with floats, lights, and holiday spirit.

“Thank you for helping us ensure the safety of everyone,” the Alturas Chamber of Commerce said in a statement.
