Wildfire Updates

The Bear Fire gained 32% containment over the weekend. Despite strong winds and changing weather patterns, fire officials report that crews managed to keep the fire within its current perimeter. Efforts are now focused on mop-up operations and strengthening control lines. The Bear Fire has burned 3,325 acres.

Meanwhile, a wildfire is threatening south Reno. The Davis Fire sparked near Davis Creek Regional Park, in Washoe Valley, south of Reno, around 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Truckee Meadows Fire and Rescue reports that the fire has now burned an estimated 6,500 acres and is 0% contained as of Sunday evening.
Approximately 12,000 to 14,000 people remain under evacuation orders in south Reno. The fire continues to burn through heavy timber and brush. The fire has impacted fourteen structures, but that number may increase as damage assessments resume when it is safe. The fire has moved north and northeast along Mt. Rose Highway, which remains closed, though all other major roads, including I-580 and Old U.S. Highway 395, are open.

On the Park Fire, containment remains at 99% as crews work to repair roadways affected by fire suppression efforts and remove hazardous trees. Isolated stump holes, logs, and snags within the fire boundary will continue to produce visible smoke until a season-ending weather event. This minimal smoldering does not pose a threat to containment lines. A local fire crew is assigned to locate and extinguish isolated hotspots.
