There’s an update to the prescribed burn in Susanville at the Old Mill site. Calfire has postponed the burns until further notice as wildfires are popping up throughout the region specifically in neighboring counties.
Large-scale fires in Butte, Tehama, Shasta, and Siskiyou counties promoted several evacuations of nearby communities as heat and winds fueled thier growth.
Calfire reports that the June fire in Butte is now 95% contained, while the Rocky fire in Butte County is also nearing containment at 70%. The hidden fire in Shasta County is 45 acres and 35% contained.

A reminder for visible smoke in Susanville as Calfire teams up with local authorities to reduce fuels around the Old mill site.
The department, along with Susanville Fire and the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office, says this area is often plagued with nuisance fires in peak fire season, which pose significant dangers to nearby homes and the Susan River Walk.
Crews will conduct a prescribed burn to mitigate these threats with operations starting today. The project area will be Riverside Drive, south of the Susan River, near the old SPI Mill site. Officials advise that you will see smoke from the prescribed burn and ask that you do not report it.
Burns will take place throughout this week as weather conditions allow.
