UPS Quincy Distribution Center Will Remain Open Amid Network Reconfiguration

Rumors have circulated around Quincy over the past week that United Parcel Service planned to close its local distribution center, located off North Mill Creek Road in East Quincy. Drivers and retailers were apparently informed that the closure would take place in a month, raising concerns for local UPS employees.

Now, according to a UPS spokesperson, the center will remain open.

“The short answer is the building is not closing,” said UPS spokesperson Karen Tomaszewski Hill in an email to The Plumas Sun.

Network reconfiguration

The possible closure of the Quincy distribution center was part of the largest network reconfiguration in UPS history that started in 2024, involving modernizing old buildings or closing them if that would help to optimize the UPS network capacity. The company plans to continue network assessments through 2026.

Tomaszewski Hill said the reconfiguration will impact positions, “and we are committed to supporting our employees throughout this process.” It does not appear that any UPS positions in Quincy have yet been impacted.

“While our building footprint is changing, our record of reliable pickup and delivery is not,” Tomaszewski Hill said.

Mountain Mattress confirmed that it will continue to serve as a drop-off location for UPS packages regardless of what happens to the Quincy UPS building. Mountain Mattress’ Quincy is located at 11 Linden Avenue in Quincy. It is open Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
