Lassen County Sheriff Press Release-Fatal Traffic Collision on U.S. Highway 395
On January 30, 2025 at approximately 0540 hrs., deputies responded to Highway 395 just south of the Bass Hill landfill for a head-on collision.
We learned through witness statements and evidence located on scene, that Kelly Ann Erwin (46) of Susanville, the driver and sole occupant of a grey Dodge Durango, was travelling southbound on Highway 395 when she attempted to pass a semi-truck. As she passed the semi, Erwin encountered an on-coming vehicle, a white Toyota 4-Runner, occupied by Janesville resident, Raymond Edward White (67). White attempted to avoid the collision, but unfortunately was unable to do so and collided with Erwin’s vehicle head on, resulting in the death of both drivers.
After having witnessed the collision, Susanville resident, Steven Ray Bresolin (52) stopped his vehicle on the westbound shoulder of the road to render aid. While doing so, he was struck and killed by a vehicle travelling northbound on Highway 395. After having hit Bresolin, the driver of that vehicle stopped, called 911 and waited on scene for emergency personnel.
The investigation into the accident is being handled by the California Highway Patrol.
Our office would like to offer our deepest condolences to everyone effected by this devasting and preventable accident. Furthermore, we would like to remind the public to please remain alert, follow the traffic law and use caution while driving.
