Two Rescued from Swift Waters of Feather River

The warm temperatures tempted two people in Quincy to test the Feather River yesterday, and wound up having to be rescued from the swift waters.

Plumas Search and Rescue called for the assistance of the Quincy CHP office, which found two individuals who made the unwise decision “to float the Feather River equipped with inner tubes.” Due to the intense river conditions from the massive amount of water received through the numerous winter storms building a significant snowpack, the tubes quickly popped, and one of the floaters was pushed onto the shore near Highway 70. The other became stranded in the middle of the rushing river. An emergency call went out, and CHP helicopter H-14 from Redding was called to the scene. The floater was rescued from the banks, hoisted by the helicopter, and taken to the hospital for evaluation.

The Quincy CHP office and many other state officials remind you that although daytime highs are warming up, waterways are extremely cold and flowing at very high rates. You are encouraged to hold off on enjoying nearby rivers to cool off until summer when the spring melt has calmed.
