The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is investigating a fatal crash involving a 44-year-old Chico man who died after his vehicle went off Highway 32 near Alder Creek Campground on the evening of October 11th.
According to the CHP, the man was driving westbound in his 2002 Honda sedan at around 5:30 p.m. when he lost control of the vehicle. The car crossed into the eastbound lane and continued onto the shoulder before plunging down a steep, rocky slope. The vehicle overturned several times, eventually coming to rest several hundred feet below the highway.
Passersby and first responders made lifesaving efforts, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene due to his injuries.
The CHP’s Susanville office is currently investigating the collision. Anyone who may have witnessed the accident is asked to contact the Susanville Communications Center at (530) 252-1900.
