On Sunday, June 21, 2026, at approximately 11:27 a.m., Susanville Police Officers were conducting speed enforcement on Main Street near Lassen High School when they observed a white Ford F-150 traveling at a speed above the posted limit.
Officers conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle in the Valero parking lot near the intersection of Main Street and North Weatherlow Street. During the investigation, officers observed indicators of possible impairment and had the driver exit the vehicle.
As the driver exited the vehicle, officers observed a concealed handgun located inside the driver’s door pocket. The driver was safely detained, and additional officers responded to assist.
During a subsequent search of the vehicle, officers located suspected methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia commonly associated with the use of controlled substances, and a loaded firearm.
The driver, identified as Jay Vincent Nichols, 36, of Susanville, was arrested and booked into the Lassen County Adult Detention Facility on felony weapon and narcotics-related charges.
The suspected methamphetamine and associated evidence were collected and booked into evidence pending further analysis.
