The Search for a Public Safety Chief Continues for the City of Susanville

Interviews have been ongoing, with another round of interviews to be held in a special meeting today at City Hall.

The Public Safety Chief position was created, as City Manager Dan Newton noted, given the reasonable time with the retirement of both the Police Chief and Fire Chief within months of each other.

Newton said this was not a money-saving move for the city as it would create new positions within each department. It had been told that the public safety chief would assume the administrative roles of the Fire and Police Chief with the hopes of affording better communication between departments.

Candidates must have both experience and training as a firefighter, along with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Police Science, Fire Science, Public Administration, Political Science, or a closely related field.

The council will meet in a special session tomorrow at 8 am.
