Lieutenant Specialist Trevor Pell has been named the 2022 Wildlife Officer of the Year by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW). He was recognized for his exemplary skills, including a complex investigation involving unlawful non-native abalone trafficking. Lt. Pell led the investigation, uncovering the illegal importation of 797 non-native disk abalone from South Korea without the required permit. This case resulted in significant civil penalties and payment to the CalTIP reward fund. Lt. Pell’s expertise in restricted and exotic species laws has also contributed to successful cases involving various wildlife species.
