Susanville’s main well has experienced an equipment failure, forcing the necessity for water restrictions.
The well is the city’s largest and serves as the primary source of irrigation during the summer months. The city is now having to rely on its backup well with a smaller pumping capacity.
As summer brings triple-digit heat this weekend, officials are concerned about the rising fire risk and having an adequate water supply for fire suppression. In a statement from Public Works Director Bob Godman, “maintaining a sufficient volume of water in storage is critical to enhancing the fire safety measures in Susanville.” To help maintain that level, you are asked to cut back on watering your gardens and landscapes by 25%.
The city says summer water rates will remain unchanged, and you will not be charged extra.
