During a DUI saturation patrol Wednesday evening, officers with the Susanville Police Department made two arrests, leading to the recovery of a firearm and drugs.

Early in the evening, as an officer pulled over a car, they brought in K-9 Officer Zeke, who sniffed out narcotics in the vehicle. The driver got taken out and cuffed up, and when they searched the car, they discovered a stolen loaded handgun and drug items, with what appeared to be methamphetamine and ammunition. According to the sheriff’s office reports, the vehicle’s driver is 31-year-old Eric McKendall, a convicted felon.

Later that night, another officer made a traffic stop. The smell of marijuana was evident, and the officer initiated a search of the vehicle, discovering over 10 pounds of marijuana. Due to the sheer amount of weed in the driver’s possession, they were charged with a felony.

The Susanville Police Department can perform such operations as part of a program funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
