Over the weekend a short circuit caught a garage on North Mesa street on fire.
Around 3 o’clock on Saturday, Susanville fire crews arrived to find smoke coming from the detached garage. Susanville Police Department (SPD) and LMUD crews helped shut off power to the home and control traffic in the area. Fire crews learned that the home’s tenant and friend had put out the fire with a garden hose.
Crews began to salvage the garage and investigate the cause, which was found to be a short circuit at a light fixture in the closet of the detached garage. The short circuit occurred during maintenance on a GFI plug in the bathroom of the main house. The department says the quick reaction of the tenant and his friend, seeing the smoke, calling 9-1-1, and extinguishing the fire, stopped the severity of damage and the possible loss of the garage.
There were no injuries as a result of the fire.
SPD, the City of Susanville Natural Gas Department, CalFire, and Lassen Municipal Utility District, supported SFD.
