Susanville Fire says you have until June to clear your yard of weeds and trash or face fines.
The department has announced the annual weed abatement deadline, urging you to spruce up your yard to better protect your home and community from fire.
Susanville Fire guidelines require a 30-foot cleared zone around buildings and a 50-foot perimeter to streets or sidewalks, with optional cross-breaks every 50 feet. Maintain 10 feet of clearance around storage areas, remove debris, and tidy wood and fuel storage. Greenbelts and sensitive areas are assessed separately, with larger cleared areas if fire risks exist. Trim branches from trees, keeping lower branches 6 feet from the ground or 1/3 of the tree’s height for smaller trees.
The department reminds you that open burning of yard waste is prohibited.
The deadline to meet the weed abatement requirements is June 24th.
