Susanville City Councilmember Patrick Parrish continues in his unofficial role as budget watchdog on the council.

He set his sights on the Local Area Revitalization Project Coop and the Farmer’s Markets held for many years in Pancera Plaza during the council’s Wednesday, May 7 meeting.

The council unanimously approved street closures for the 13 Saturday Farmers Market and the three evening markets — services the city estimates will cost it more than $6,000 to provide. Those estimated costs are $358 for the special insurance premium; $2,254.08 for public works employees’ overtime; $863.81 for public works employees’ regular time; $804 for police department regular time; and $1,804.34 in public works equipment costs; for a total of $6,084.34.

But according to a secondary motion by Parrish, unanimously approved by the council (councilmember Curtis Bortle was absent), the council will no longer provide financial support to LARP for the Farmer’s Market after this year.
