The Susanville city council gets an update on one of their top priorities, homelessness, during the council’s January 4th meeting. City Administrator Dan Newton said in working in conjunction with the county, a site is under consideration to be the location of a permanent supportive housing unit on Mesa street.
Chief of police Ryan Cochran also added that at this time, there have been no unhoused people taking up residence along the river; the department continues to make regular weekly walks along the Susan River trail to monitor the situation. Newton added that within the next few meetings, the purchase of a UTV will also be brought to the council for approval. With the help of LMUD, the purchase aims to patrol the walk better and employ a permanent community service-type position under the police department.
