Susanville City Council to discuss the homelessness problem along the Susan River and speak to the City Attorney on the fateful ruling in the CCC case in a special meeting today. On Thursday the 8th, Judge Moody ruled in favor of the state in closing the California Correctional center but not after scolding CDCR and the state for their backroom dealings, referencing the new statute hidden in a trailer bill in the state’s budget that was drafted and passed in a matter of three days. Council will discuss how to mitigate this outcome best and what it could mean for the community, along with Judge Moody’s claim that the City can still file for monetary compensation for damages for the closure of the prison. The council meets at City Hall at 10:30, opening in closed session, then opening to the community.
