During the Susanville City Council Special Meeting today at 3 p.m., Public Safety Chief Mike Bollinger and Public Works Director Bob Godman are to announce their retirements. Bollinger, who became the public safety chief in February 2024, will retire in October, while Godman’s last working day will be August 30.

The agenda includes proposals for salary adjustments related to these positions. The new public safety chief role, created to combine the police and fire chief positions, will have a salary range of $139,962 to $187,581, effective October 11, 2025. Additionally, the salary range for the public works director is proposed to be $126,962 to $170,141, effective August 31, 2025.

The meeting also addresses the reinstatement of the Account Technician II position, which was reclassified in March 2025 and included in the 2025/2026 fiscal year budget. This position, at a range of 142-146 in the Miscellaneous Unit, aims to enhance efficiencies in the city’s accounts receivables, business license program, account management, and various financial assistance programs.

The staff report highlights that these changes will have a fiscal impact due to the increased pay range for the public safety chief and public works director, along with the addition of the Account Technician II position. Employee salaries may vary based on experience and qualifications.
