Susanville CHP has noted a concerning uptick in underage motorists operating vehicles while under the influence or in possession of alcohol. We’re committed to keeping our roads safe, but we need your help to turn this trend around.
Driving is a privilege, and for those under 21, California has a Zero Tolerance policy. Whether it’s one drink or an open container in the passenger seat, the consequences are real and life-altering.
Know the Law ⚖️
VC 23136(a): It is unlawful for anyone under 21 to drive with a Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) of 0.01% or higher.
VC 23140(a) | Underage DUI: It is illegal for a person under 21 to drive with a BAC of 0.05% or greater.
VC 23223(a) A driver shall not have in the driver’s possession, while in a motor vehicle upon a highway or on lands, as described in subdivision (c) of Section 23220, any bottle, can, or other receptacle, containing any alcoholic beverage that has been opened, or a seal broken, or the contents of which have been partially removed.
VC 23223(b) A passenger shall not have in the passenger’s possession, while in a motor vehicle upon a highway or on lands, as described in subdivision (c) of Section 23220, any bottle, can, or other receptacle containing any alcoholic beverage that has been opened or a seal broken, or the contents of which have been partially removed.
