SAR welfare check near Lee Summit — positive outcome

Last night, PCSAR was requested to assist with a welfare check on an individual camping in the Lee Summit area who had known chronic medical issues. Friends and family had been unable to contact the individual, which was unusual, and concerns were heightened after several days of severe winter weather.

SAR personnel were provided only a general location, making the search more challenging. Given the circumstances — remote terrain, heavy snowfall, and extended loss of contact — crews deployed a snowcat to access the area.

Responders were able to locate the individual within the general area provided and found them to be safe and in good condition. Their phone had lost power, preventing them from responding to messages. The individual reported being well-equipped for winter camping, thanked responders for checking on them, and declined assistance leaving the area.

While this incident was uneventful compared to many SAR responses, we were relieved to confirm a positive outcome. Extended storms and remote conditions can quickly turn a routine situation into a serious one, and we are glad the individual was safe and not in need of assistance.

Thank you to everyone who supports PCSAR and helps keep our volunteers ready to respond.
