Local third graders from Quincy and Portola had the opportunity to attend Living History School Days at White Sulphur Springs Ranch this past year. They participated in various learning stations that explored the history of their area, including activities like homestead cooking and washing, livestock branding, Maidu life, and fruit box building. Students also toured the historic ranch house. Organizers mentioned that the event was rewarding for both volunteers and the third graders. A veteran schoolteacher noted that the 2024 event was the best field trip she had experienced in her 25 years of teaching. Recently, Plumas Bank generously offered to fund both the 2024 edition of School Days and the upcoming 2025 event. Volunteers are eagerly looking forward to making the next school days a positive learning experience for the students who participate.
