Talks continue with stakeholders to Address Long-Term Ambulance Service Solutions in Chester/Lake Almanor Basin

On Thursday, March 21, 2024, stakeholders from the Emergency Medical Care Committee (EMCC) subcommittee convened for a pivotal meeting to discuss the ongoing efforts to address a long-term solution for Ambulance Service in the Chester/Lake Almanor Basin and its surrounding areas. The meeting was focused on exploring various options to ensure effective emergency medical care for the community.

After several months of implementing an interim solution, the subcommittee says they have gained valuable insights into the existing model and identified significant gaps that need to be addressed. These gaps include shortages in personnel and equipment and the need for additional fully equipped ambulances and operation locations.

The group believes it is paramount to safeguard Peninsula Fire’s operational capabilities to cover their district while simultaneously ensuring adequate coverage for the rest of the basin. To this end, it has been determined that an additional ambulance and crew stationed in Chester are necessary. Representatives are actively investigating potential locations to house the ambulance and crew.

The subcommittee expressed gratitude to Peninsula Fire for their dedicated support in providing coverage for the basin during this transitional period. Additionally, appreciation was extended to Westshore Fire for their contributions to the collaborative problem-solving efforts.

The group emphasizes that regular subcommittee meetings will continue in the efforts to develop a sustainable solution that meets the evolving needs of the Lake Almanor Basin both now and in the future.
