Soaring Prices Affect City Natural Gas Budget

Soaring natural gas prices and increased sales have left the city of Susanville’s natural gas division budget with empty pockets.

Public Works Director Bob Godman said this past December; the city sold more natural gas than in any month in the division’s history. Now coupled with a spike in natural gas day prices, the city needs to adjust for the remainder of the fiscal year to continue buying natural gas. The gas purchasing advisor estimates 450,000 dollars will help the city get there. At the city council’s April 5th meeting, Godman will ask the council to take the 450,000 from the natural gas division’s available cash to increase the budget. This adjustment will have no impact on the general fund. The council will meet at 5 o’clock at city hall Wednesday, April 5th.
