Smoke Visible from RX Burns in Eastern Plumas

Firefighters from the Feather River Ranger District of Plumas National Forest are set to start prescribed burns near Valley Creek, about 4 miles from La Porte, conditions permitting. FF are targeting around 140 acres, which might continue through Friday.

This burn is part of the Plumas National Forest Wildfire Crisis Strategy (WCS) Community Protection Project. Officials say it’s a critical fuel reduction effort aimed at protecting local communities from catastrophic wildfires and restoring forest health.

You can expect visible smoke, but it shouldn’t significantly impact nearby communities like La Porte, American House, Strawberry Valley, and Challenge. Minor smoke impacts might occur along La Porte Road and nearby forest roads, potentially reducing visibility, especially in the mornings and evenings. Traffic controls could be implemented if smoke does affect that roadway.

Additionally, there will be increased fire equipment traffic in the area. Drivers should exercise caution, watch for fire equipment, and be prepared for possible slow traffic.
