Ongoing seismic activity near Fredonyer Summit continues to cause shifting and cracking along a former section of California State Route 36, according to transportation officials.
Recent movement along the old roadway has reinforced the need for a temporary detour that reroutes traffic around the unstable area. The detour allows vehicles to continue traveling through the corridor while crews and engineers monitor conditions and evaluate potential long-term repair options.
Officials say the area remains active and unstable, and members of the public are asked to stay clear of coned or closed-off sections near the former roadway for safety reasons.
Transportation crews will continue monitoring the site as work progresses to keep the route open and safe for travelers.
