Scammers again pretend to be sheriff’s deputies in the latest ploy to get your money. The Plumas county sheriffs office says a scammer will call you on an outstanding warrant demanding payment. The sheriff’s office reminds you they will never call you to clear up an active warrant or request payment of any kind.
The department adds that you may be easily fooled as caller ID indicates the call is coming from the PCSO or another local number. It’s a practice called phone number spoofing.
