The Rotary Club of Quincy announces the local qualifying round for the Rotary District 5190 annual youth instrumental music contest. The competition will take place Feb. 18 at 5:30 p.m. at Quincy Elementary School’s Alder campus, offering young musicians the opportunity to win local prizes and advance to compete for a $1,000 grand prize.
The competition is open to solo instrumentalists who wish to showcase their musical talents through a three- to eight-minute performance. Winners of the local competition will advance to the district level, where they will have the chance to compete for the top prize at the annual Rotary district conference in Reno.
The competition consists of two qualifying contests followed by finals, all offering prize money to winners. The district champion will be announced Saturday, May 2, at the conference in Reno.
“This contest provides an excellent platform for young musicians in our community to demonstrate their skills and gain valuable performance experience,” said Steve Hill, contest coordinator for the Rotary Club of Quincy. “We’re excited to support youth talent and provide opportunities for students to advance their musical education.”
Organizers encourage students interested in participating to register for the Feb. 18 competition. The local contest is organized by the Rotary Club of Quincy as part of the larger Rotary District 5190 initiative to support youth development through music education.
Rotary District 5190 encompasses clubs throughout Northern California and Nevada. For Chester-area students, the Rotary Club of Chester is offering a contest as well.
Rotary International is a global network of volunteer leaders dedicated to tackling humanitarian challenges and promoting peace. The organization’s motto is “People of Action.”
