Lassen Community College and Chico State have forged a significant agreement aimed at bolstering transfer student success.
The collaboration, which also includes seven other community colleges in the North State region, seeks to streamline the transfer process for students aspiring to pursue bachelor’s degrees at Chico State.
President Steve Perez, alongside leaders from Butte College, College of the Siskiyous, Feather River College, Lassen Community College, Shasta College, Woodland Community College, and Yuba College, formalized this agreement in signing an MOU. This initiative, which includes guaranteed admission and support systems, endeavors to simplify the path for transfer students to obtain four-year degrees, credentials, and further education within the region.
The collaboration includes Chico State offering guaranteed admission to students from the community colleges if they meet eligibility criteria and application deadlines. Chico State will also invite eligible first-time, first-year applicants who were initially denied admission to join the Transfer Success Pathway (TSP). Each participating college will identify transfer-interested students early and organize campus tours of Chico State for them to aid in their transition. Chico State’s educational opportunities will also be promoted on the campuses of the community colleges.
Carie Camacho, Interim Superintendent/President of Lassen Community College, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, emphasizing the significance of guaranteed admission, calling it “lifesaving for the students of [this] small town, highlighting the proximity of Chico State, located just two hours away, making it an ideal university for local students, with easy access to home when needed.
