Rebecca Lewis Appointed New Superintendent of Modoc Joint Unified School District

At its meeting on June 17, 2025, the Modoc Joint Unified School District Board of Trustees unanimously approved the appointment of Mrs. Rebecca (Beckie) Lewis as the next Superintendent of Modoc Joint Unified School District, effective July 1, 2025.

Mrs. Lewis has dedicated 19 years of service to the district, starting her career as a secretary at Modoc High School for four years. She then spent nine years as a teacher at Alturas Elementary School, followed by six years as the principal of the same school. Throughout her tenure, she has exemplified strong leadership and a commitment to student achievement, as well as dedication to the staff, students, and families within the district.

A graduate of Modoc Joint Unified School District, Mrs. Lewis has deep connections to the community, providing her with valuable insight into the needs and values of Modoc County.

Board President Fernand Larranaga expressed the Board’s enthusiasm, stating that Mrs. Lewis is exceptionally suited to lead the district due to her leadership, experience, and lifelong ties to the community.

In her remarks, Mrs. Lewis stated, “I am truly honored to serve Modoc Joint Unified School District as Superintendent. This community has played an important role in my life and career, and I am committed to working collaboratively with our students, staff, families, and community members to continue supporting student success throughout the district.”
