A life was lost and 14 others homeless after a structure fire in East Quincy ripped through three buildings on Sunday morning. The fire began in a home and then spread to two adjacent apartment units at the corner of First and Main streets. Quincy Fire responded as well as Meadow Valley, Greenhorn, and Long Valley fire departments after a teenage passerby called in the fire and made a heroic effort to begin to help those fleeing the flames. One injury and one death resulted from the fire; the cause is still under investigation, and their identities are unknown at this time. The more than dozen that are now without a home have been placed into a motel with the help of the Red Cross.
