Plumas National Forest announced that due to favorable conditions and available resources on scene, firefighters are expanding pile burning operations in the Backstrap Unit.  Approximately 137 acres are planned for treatment today across the Crain Ridge, Rim Radio and Backstrap units.

Test fires this morning were successful and ignitions are continuing.

Ignitions are taking place simultaneously at all three locations.  Smoke is expected to be highly visible in the surrounding area.

Area residents and visitors are asked to avoid roads in and around the project areas in the Concow Basin.  If possible, use alternate routes or use extreme caution traveling in the area.  If driving in the area, slow down and watch for firefighters working along roads in the project areas.
