Possible Explosive Device Discovered in East Quincy Prompting Quick Response from Authorities

On June 14, 2025, at approximately 11:07 a.m., Plumas County Sheriff’s Dispatch received a call from an East Quincy resident reporting the discovery of what she believed to be a stick of dynamite while sorting through inherited family property.

Responding deputies and officers from the California Highway Patrol arrived on scene and promptly secured the area. Nearby residents were advised to shelter in place as a precaution. The Butte County Interagency Bomb Squad was contacted and responded to assist with the situation.

The bomb squad safely examined and removed the device, which was then disposed of in accordance with established protocols. Following a thorough investigation, no criminal referral will be made regarding this incident.
