CalFire Lassen-Modoc Unit issued the following press release related to Portable Heaters
Portable heaters can keep you comfortable during cold weather—but they can also be dangerous if used improperly.
Keep your home safe by following these two important tips to help prevent heating-related fires:
• Always turn the heater off when you leave the room or go to sleep.
• Keep it at least 3 feet away from anything flammable, such as furniture, bedding, curtains, or paper.
According to the National Fire Protection Association, heating equipment—including space heaters—accounts for more than 38,000 home fires each year, or over 1 in 10 reported home fires.
