John Steffanic retired after 17 years as director of the Plumas-Sierra County Fair and county fair manager, receiving heartfelt recognition from the Plumas County Board of Supervisors on April 14. The supervisors honored him with a resolution and a plaque, commending his steady leadership, dedication, and commitment to one of the county’s most valued community institutions.

Throughout his tenure, Steffanic demonstrated resilience, adaptability, and compassion, ensuring the fairgrounds remained a vital community asset in both good and challenging times. Having attended the county fair since childhood, with his family’s long-standing involvement, Steffanic expressed deep appreciation for the fair board, volunteers, and staff who contributed to the fair’s ongoing success.

He also acknowledged Oran Morrison, the fair building and maintenance supervisor for 20 years, praising his excellent work. Board Chair Mimi Hall highlighted Steffanic’s sacrifice during the county’s 2008 budget cuts, noting that he voluntarily took a 50% pay cut to help the county.

Supervisor Jeff Engel lauded Steffanic for protecting “the jewel of the county” and expressed regret at his retirement. The entire Board of Supervisors joined in applause, celebrating Steffanic’s many contributions to the Plumas-Sierra County Fair and the community.
