Plumas National Forest is opening up their Fire Training program ahead of this year’s fire season.
The program will cover 40 hours of training and give graduates a red card for Basic wildland fire fighting. This program provides entry-level knowledge for those curious about what it takes to become a wildland fire firefighter or enter a local Fire Department as a career.
Chief Moore from the Susanville Fire Department recently announced at the beginning of March that the Department has been approved to hire three positions for this coming fire season. Interested parties could include graduating high school students or those from a training program.
Basic abatement removal, required fire hydrant flows, mentorship, and equipment testing will all be skills achieved through the training course.
This program starts in April and will continue into May on the weekends, and those who receive the red card will become on-call wildland wildfire fighters.
Sign-ups are this Saturday at 10 am at the Feather River Range District Office. To find more details, call 530-532-7438.
