Ignitions continue in the Challenge area, well to the SE of Quincy and Loyalton, as the Plumas National Forest moves forward with an aggressive schedule to perform prescribed burns. Crews completed over 180 acres of piles by 1 am this morning.
Tamara Schmidt, an informational officer with the National Forest, said that mop-up and patrols will continue on the treated units throughout the week. Adding that special care has been made to ensure there is still green vegetation on the forest floor while brush and large vegetation fuels have been reduced to mitigate wildfire risk.
