Plumas National Forest firefighters say prescribed burns will start in the Feather River Ranger District Challenge area if the weather holds.
Crews plan to ignite around 150 acres within three segments. Burns may continue through June 4th. You can also expect to see smoke for up to five days following the burns.
Forbestown, Challenge, Woodleaf, and Clipper Mills communities can expect to see smoke, yet the forest service says there should be no long-term impacts.
If you are traveling Olive Highway in Lake Oroville, valley smoke may also be visible. Do not be alarmed.
Along nearby roadways, you can plan to encounter brief smoke impacts along Forbestown and LaPorte and neighboring forest roads. Slow down through these areas as visibility may be reduced as smoke settles, especially in the early morning and late evening hours.
There will also be increased firefighting equipment traffic in the area; use caution, watch for fire equipment exiting and entering area roadways, and possibly slow traffic.
If weather conditions become unfavorable, including increased or gusty winds in the area, burning will stop until conditions improve. Firefighters will be monitoring conditions throughout the operation.
