This week, pile burning operations are ongoing in the Plumas National Forest in Plumas County. Firefighters have successfully completed treatments on three separate 1-acre units at locations including the Mount Hough Ranger District office, Oakland Camp, and Greenville Campground. They have also completed ignitions on approximately 100 of the intended 284 acres of large machine piles near Meadow Valley.
Starting tomorrow, operations will expand to include approximately 136 acres near Canyon Dam, in addition to the remaining 184 acres planned for burning. The efforts will involve ignitions south of Canyon Dam and Lake Almanor, and will continue throughout the week.
The pile burning near Seneca Road in the Dixie Integrated Resource Service Contract (IRSC) area will be visible from several locations, including Canyon Dam, Lake Almanor, California State Highway 89, and Seneca Road.
Drivers should be aware that visibility on roads in these project areas may be reduced, particularly in the early morning and late evening as smoke settles.
The operations are weather-dependent, and burning will be halted if conditions become unfavorable, such as in the presence of increased or gusty winds. Firefighters will closely monitor conditions throughout the operation to ensure safety.
