The Plumas District Hospital Volunteers group announces it has reached the $1 million figure in equipment purchased for the hospital. Money is raised through Bargain Boutique Fine Thrift and Gifts, located at 405 Main St. in Quincy. Founded in 1978, the Bargain Boutique settled at its current location in 2012.
The store is completely staffed and run by volunteers. There are 80-plus PDH Volunteers members, and approximately 35 members actively operate the store.
Proceeds benefit Plumas District Hospital. The group has purchased needed equipment, added new beds and televisions, remodeled the hospital lobby, provided a new mammography machine and even bought a state-of-the-art room sanitizing robot.
Scholarships are also awarded yearly to local students interested in pursuing a career in the medical profession. Applications are available online at www.PDH.org.
Organizers report that volunteers are not limited to working at the Bargain Boutique. PDH Volunteers members also support local blood drives, volunteer at the skilled nursing facility, participate in holiday fairs and more.
The organization is always seeking volunteers. “Volunteering provides a sense of purpose and community and teaches valuable skills,” say organizers. “It’s fun and it benefits our community and hospital!” More information is available by calling 530-283-4345.
