Plumas County has caught the eye of PBS’s program “Viewpoint,” hosted by Dennis Quaid, as shared by County Administrative Officer Debra Lucero in a recent Board of Supervisors meeting. **CLIP** The program is considering featuring Plumas County in an upcoming special as part of its “Discover America” series, highlighting places to live, visit, and start a business.

The special, which runs about five minutes in length, is scheduled to air between popular PBS tourism programs, potentially reaching 60 million. Viewers of “Viewpoint” are typically affluent individuals in upper management roles, making this exposure particularly valuable for the county. Supervisor Greg Hagwood noted the potential opportunity as “putting rubber on the road” to what the county has been actively pursing in marketing Plumas.

The interest from PBS stemmed from the proactive efforts of the Feather River Tourism Association (FRTA), which has been promoting the county at various trade shows. Lucero emphasized the importance of this feature as an opportunity to showcase the unique charm and potential of Plumas County to a national audience.

Lucero stated that if selected, the county would need to allocate time, funds, and coordinate logistics for the film crew traveling from Florida to produce the show.

Although not a guarantee, the county still needs to be chosen by PBS, yet the Board of Supervisors expressed enthusiasm about the potential impact this exposure could have on local tourism and economic development McGowan exclaimed the significance as the “Cheapest investment he has ever heard of.”

Lucero explained the 30 grand would need to be an upfront cost which she said could come from the Professional Services budget built into the CAO budget. The goal would be to offset some of the costs from stakeholders.

Other than Supervisor Engle as the sole dissenting vote, the supervisors showed strong support to move forward in accepting the invitation to be a candidate.
