Plumas County SAR Rescues Lost Hiker on PCT After 12-Hour Mission

Plumas County SAR was called out for a PCT hiker that had lost the trail and was having trouble breathing near Butte Bar, Northwest of Little Grass Valley Reservoir. SAR responded, and in what turned out to be nearly a 12 hour mission– using cell phone satellite communication and tracking skills, SAR was able to locate the subject in thick brush and windfall trees in an area of the North Fire burn scar.
Very steep terrain, heavy brush and fallen trees made progress extremely slow and challenging.
After locating and assessing the subject, SAR was able to get him back to the trail and escorted him to the SAR jeep for transport to Quincy. Thanks to the Plumas County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch for their help over an entire shift and all of the SAR team that make our responses possible.
Thanks also to the members of the public that donate to keep our 100% volunteer organization funded!
