Plumas County is preparing to adopt spending standards for a $7.8 million settlement received from Pacific Gas and Electric Co. related to the Dixie Fire. The Board of Supervisors is forming an ad hoc committee to develop specific proposals for using the funds strategically to benefit the community.
During a meeting on April 15, Supervisor Mimi Hall emphasized the need for careful planning, given the one-time nature of the funds. Hall, along with Board Chair Kevin Goss, proposed principles to guide spending decisions, focusing on restoring the county’s stability and capacity, which were significantly impacted by the fire.
The settlement, part of a larger $24 million collective agreement, was first acknowledged at a board meeting in August 2023, with limited expenditures made so far. Suggestions for fund allocation have included investing in county stability and infrastructure.
Hall highlighted the importance of avoiding duplication and ensuring community involvement in the planning process. Specific project ideas discussed included capital improvements at the Plumas-Sierra County Fairgrounds and potential investments in the county’s airports, which could enhance economic returns.
The ad hoc committee, composed of several county officials, is expected to present spending proposals at the board’s May 6 meeting.
