The candidate filing period for local county offices opened Feb. 9 and will run through March 6 at 5:00 pm, unless extended. Eligible candidates will appear on the ballots for the Statewide Direct Primary Election Tuesday June 2, 2026. Mail-in ballots are expected to go out a month in advance.

The local county offices open for re-election this term include:

  • Judge of the Superior Court Department 1
  • Plumas County Supervisor District 3 representing Chester and Lake Almanor
  • Plumas County Supervisor District 5 representing East Quincy, Cromberg, and Graeagle
  • Assessor
  • Auditor-Controller
  • Clerk-Recorder/Registrar of Voters
  • County Superintendent of Schools
  • Treasurer-Tax Collector

To be eligible, candidates must be 18 years or older and reside in Plumas County or in the district they are running to represent. Other qualifications may be required to run for some elected positions. The term of office for all positions is four years with the exception of superior court judgeship, which carries a six year term.

Interested people must complete a declaration for candidacy form and provide a statement of qualifications. Election forms and information are available at the Plumas County Clerk Recorder/Election office, Room 102 located at the Plumas County courthouse at 520 Main St. in Quincy.

All county elections are decided by simple majority. If multiple candidates in the same race each receive less than 50% of total votes, the two leading candidates will advance to a run-off election in November. If only one person files for any elective office, the county clerk will present a certificate of appointment in lieu of election to that candidate. If no one files for an office, the Board of Supervisors shall appoint a qualified person to fill the position, except in the case of a supervisor or judge. Supervisor and judge vacancies must be appointed by the appointment by the governor.

If the current incumbent does not file for candidacy, as is the case for the district 3 supervisor position, non-incumbents have until March 11 to file. This extra five days is intended to allow candidates to file once an “open seat” is determined.

If a candidate decides to withdraw from a race, the deadline for withdrawal of candidacy is March 6, at 5:00 p.m.

Candidates who miss the filing deadline may run as “write-ins.” In order for write-in candidates to have their votes tabulated, they must file write-in candidacy and nomination documents with the county elections office between April 6 and May 19 at 5:00 pm.
